The forms are built and most of the rebar is in place. The bor is the rectangular structure nearest the viewer. An enormous amount of heavy wet clay was removed from the pit, some of which is still present in a pile to the left. At this point Ian has taken much of it to low places in his own boggy yard. The strata here consist of a foot or two of sandy loam (which we brought in last summer), a few inches of garden soil put in place by a former owner, and below that nothing but clay - terrible to work in. Ian has maintained good spirits despite the backbreaking work.
